Gas Fireplace
- The living room gas fireplace is a ventless propane system that will be available for guest to use during the cold weather season from September through March.
- The main gas valve is just to the right of the fireplace and is controlled by a removable key. This valve should remain open during the fireplace season. The key will be kept on the mantle above the fireplace for emergencies. Place the key into the valve and turn counterclockwise fully to open the gas valve. Turn clockwise fully to close the valve. Closing the gas valve will extinguish the pilot light.
- As long as the pilot light remains lit, operating the gas fireplace involves simply flipping the switch ON or OFF. The fireplace switch is located just inside the fireplace on the right side at the bottom
- The flame strength can be adjusted by turning the (bottom) knob labeled with HI and LO. The control knobs are also located inside the fireplace on the right side on the bottom
Relighting the Gas Fireplace
If the pilot light is extinguished it will need to be manually relit before the fireplace may be used. Complete the following procedure to relight the pilot light. There is a lighter stored in the kitchen utility drawer for this purpose.
- Make sure that the main gas valve is turned on. This is located to the right of the fireplace on the wall. The key may be present in the valve or may be stored on the mantle just above the fireplace. Insert the key fully and turn counterclockwise completely to fully open the gas valve.
- The fireplace controls are inside the fireplace on the right side (first picture). Start with the control knob (top knob) in the 'OFF' position. Turn the control knob to the 'PILOT' position. The pilot light is inside the fireplace near the middle and is pictured below (second picture). To relight the pilot apply a flame BELOW the pilot light tube. It is important that the flame is below the pilot tube in order to ignite the pilot while simultaneously heating up the thermocoupler just above the pilot tube. While holding the flame under the pilot light tube PUSH DOWN on the control knob. This will start the gas flow from the pilot tube and it should ignite immediately. Once the pilot light ignites you must continue holding down the control knob for 1 minute or more to allow the thermocoupler to fully heat up. After 1 minute you may release the control knob and the pilot should remain lit. If the pilot extinguishes when you release the control knob repeat steps above and hold the control knob down for a longer time before releasing. Once the pilot remains lit turn the control knob to the 'ON' position. Attempts to light the pilot should be limited to less than a minute as gas may accumulate inside the fireplace if the pilot does not ignite. Allow ample time for any accumulated gas to dissipate before further attempts.
- The fireplace is now ready to use. Simple flip switch ON/OFF to use the fireplace. Enjoy!
